Metal Siding Myths

With metal siding, there's a wealth of myths and misconceptions about how usable it is for home and household structure installation. Fortunately, most of them are well off the mark or based on badly outdated information. If done with the help of tool combos such as the SCRAIL® RoofLoc® Metal Roofing System, a firm, well-sealed metal siding or roof project can be thoroughly durable and easy to install. Let's debunk the falsehoods and explain what helps make metal siding projects into successful structures.

Myth #1: Metal Sheets Can't Insulate a Thing
One of the biggest myths about metal siding is that it completely lacks insulating properties. This idea can cause people to believe that hot weather will cause you to roast, while winter cold will bring on the deep chills. Both are false. Metal siding and roof materials can easily be insulated if combined with the right materials and installed correctly. In fact, one of the advantages of metal is that with the right exterior coating material and design, metal sheets can do an excellent job of reflecting sunlight and solar heat away.

Myth #2: Metal is Noisy
A second major belief about metal sheeting for homes and rooftops is that it's incredibly noisy during rain or hailstorms. On the one hand, this isn't untrue. If you're laying down plain metal sheeting without any other layers of protective material, it will be loud during the next storm. However, many modern sheet metal installations come with their own high quality sheathing materials. With the inclusion of these into the mix, they can even be quieter than many alternative construction materials.

Myth #3: Metal Sheets Don't Last
With completely bare steel, this might be true. However, with modern metal siding materials that are readily available, the story is completely different. Instead of being short-lived, they're the exact opposite due to new alloys, high-quality scratch resisting finishes and special treatments against even the worst kinds of rain or moisture. Steel cladding with today's manufacturing technology can last for decades without problems, and metal sheeting is naturally impervious to invasions by rot and moss.

Myth #4: Metal siding has no Decorative Style
A quick trip to any building materials supplier will disprove this. Modern designs for metal sheeting and roofing materials are not only designed with a whole range of stylish textures and appearances, but they also come in a whole kaleidoscope of highly fade-resistant colors. Manufacturers have been making steel sheeting with interesting textures that closely resemble wood grain or other more natural substances for years. Insulating materials and special coatings can further enhance the non-metallic look of metal surfaces.

Myth #5: Metal Siding is Hard to Install
In the old days of steel sheet installation, perforating the metal in a durable and tightly sealed way was tedious. This however simply isn't the case anymore thanks to BECK's SCRAIL® RoofLoc® Metal Roofing System, a modern-day pneumatic tool and fastener combo. It’s specialized, fully leak-proof SCRAIL® are far more efficient than any other product on the market. BECK's SCRAIL® RoofLoc® Metal Roofing System can apply 560 lbs. of nearly instant fastening power per nail to any roof or wall with the help of pneumatic propulsion. This means an incredibly durable, thoroughly sealed and rapidly assembled metal wall able to be applied to homes of any size. Click below to see Beck's Metal Roofing System in action!
