Ranch Fencing

Fencing your ranch is essential for many reasons. First, it is an excellent way to secure your property and keep it private. Good fencing protects your livestock, your crops, and beautifies the landscape. There are a variety of ranch fencing styles, and below are four of the most common.

Barbed Wire Fencing

Barbed wire fencing is one of the oldest and most common ranch fence types. It consists of two or three horizontal strands of strong woven wire, into which barbs are inserted, then strung between metal or wooden posts. Many farmers use this type of fence to confine docile animals. Animals associate it with painful pricks which keep them away. It is long-lasting and strong. Unwinding barbed wire or handling it without proper tools can, however, be a nightmare. BECK America offers pneumatic staplers and staples specially designed to install barbed wire easily and efficiently.

Woven Wire Fencing

A woven wire fence is also known as a hog fence. It is the most preferred ranch fence for livestock. The best part of this fence is that animals cannot run through it or get their hooves stuck in it. They also cannot get their heads over its top to graze on the other side. For more security, an electric wire fence or barbed wire fence is installed just above.

Electric Wire Fencing

This fencing is made up of multiple high tensile wire strands built in conjunction with wood or metal fence posts. Some low current is then sent through the wires, which shocks any animal brushing against it. The electric fence is not very dangerous as the electric shock is mild and only meant to deter animals from touching it. It is flexible, durable, and lasts. Electric fences are used to confine livestock such as goats, pigs, and horses. However, it is more of a psychological barrier than a real barrier since aggressive animals can easily make their way out.

Welded Wire Fencing

In this type of fence, the connections between horizontal and vertical wires are welded to create a rigid enclosure for a firm barrier. The welds are meant to prevent movement, so it is best suited on level ground or short runs. Welded wire fencing is used for lightweight applications such as keeping unwanted animals out of gardens and flowerbeds. It is also used for animal cages and dog runs. Welded wire fence is hard to stretch and even more difficult to fix without using the right tools
